WolfBrown, in collaboration with BAVC Media (Bay Area Video Coalition), has conducted a comprehensive research study, culminating in the publication of the Bay Area Film Production Memo. This study was designed to identify strategies for boosting film production in the Bay Area and to examine the associated economic and social benefits.
The research is divided into two main components:
- Bay Area Filmmaker Survey: A detailed survey of over 300 filmmakers operating in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Lessons from the Field: A comparative analysis of other film and media markets, featuring seventeen interviews conducted across seven states.
“This project is deeply informed by BAVC Media’s extensive on-the-ground experience in field-building, training, workforce development, and artist development for both youth and adults in film and media,” noted Paula Smith Arrigoni, Executive Director of BAVC Media.
The project was developed with the support of Film SF (the San Francisco Film Commission), the Bay Area Media Maker Summit (BAMMS), and the East Bay Film Collective, and was made possible through essential funding from the Kenneth Rainin Foundation. The research benefited from the guidance of an advisory committee, which included representatives from the Roxie Theater, SFFILM, Ryzo Studio & Mindful Media, and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation.
