University City Science Center’s FirstHand program has been awarded a grant from the US Department of Education. AnLar LLC and WolfBrown will serve as research and evaluation partners on the grant, working to evaluate the effectiveness of the program on students’ STEM identities, competencies, and skills. FirstHand, launched in 2014, provides project-based STEM education to middle and high school students in the Philadelphia area. The program aims to spark interest in STEM careers and includes industry-informed curricula and project-based learning. The new grant will be used to serve over 300 students in sixth through eighth grade at eight West Philly schools over the course of five years.
