CLIENT CASE STUDIES
Alliance for Young Artists and Writers
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is one of the longest running and most widely acknowledged programs for recognizing the achievements of creative young people. With funding from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Scholastic hired Dennie Wolf and Steven Holochwost at WolfBrown to conduct a study of the factors that promote the creativity of young people, in particular young people from modest to low income families. The aim was to identify those factors that could make a significant difference. Combining large-scale quantitative analysis of national survey data with qualitative analyses of interviews with young people and their families, the project identified a set of critical conditions that make it possible for young people to recognize, claim, and pursue their gifts. This information is being used to inform the Scholastic programs and those of their affiliates, as well as schools and community organizations that support gifted youth.
