Morgan Library and Museum
The Morgan Library and Museum houses one of the world’s great collections of manuscripts, other works on paper, and artifacts. It occupies a much-acclaimed and newly expanded facility in New York City intended not only to house, maintain, and display the magnificent collection but also to attract a diverse visitorship, including scholars. Working with consultants from WolfBrown, the Morgan engaged in a year-long, highly participatory strategic planning process that examined all aspects of its collection, its operation, and its future. A key component of the process included a “best practice analysis” of other institutions in such areas as interpretation and engagement, technology, and fund raising. Also important to the process was the involvement of staff working groups charged with preparing situation papers and planning action steps in various areas of activity. The final product included detailed financial scenarios as well as timelines for proposed actions.
