WXPN Public Radio
WXPN, a public radio station based at the University of Pennsylvania, wanted to develop a local program format that could be franchised to other stations within the public radio system in order to create a strong alternative to the then existing program services offered by National Public Radio and what is now Public Radio International. WolfBrown was hired to develop a comprehensive business plan that would lay out every aspect of the new service while developing a strong financial plan for its early development and long-term stability. The resulting report included a proposed format, specific prospect stations, and a five-year income budget. The plan helped gain WXPN a multi-year implementation grant. The service is now well established, financially successful, and has brought a new, younger audience to the public radio system.
